The Steele Center for Earth Literacy and Sustainability, Inc. is a non-profit, educational organization focusing on environmental studies, earth science education, and sustainable living skills. We offer a variety of classes, educational activities, and events for all age groups in order to promote earth literacy and foster an appreciation for the intricate web of life that exists on our planet. We support the earth science curriculum at local school systems by providing field trip opportunities and classroom enrichment activities. We offer other assistance to teachers as needed. Our educational offering will include classses in permaculture, sustainable organic agriculture, agro-ecology, water conservation, wetlands ecology, herbal studies, food preservation, and traditional home crafts like knitting, crocheting, quilting, rug-making, and soap-making. The Steele Center is also an advocate for environmental protection, conservation, recycling and community building. We are funded solely by grants, public and private donations, membership dues, and our own fundraising campaigns.
